Does the app need internet?
No. The app works entirely offline. Internet is only needed for sync, and only if you've turned it on.
Do I have to sign up?
No. A Google account is only required for sync.
Where are my notes stored?
On your device, encrypted. With sync on, they also live in a private app-data folder in your Google Drive that only the app can access.
Can you see my notes?
No. We don't run servers that store your data. In Pro with end-to-end encryption, not even Google can see them.
What happens if I uninstall the app?
The local notes go with it. If sync was on, they're still in the cloud and will come back once you reinstall and sign in. Without sync, only a backup file can bring them back. So it's worth making a backup before you uninstall.
Is there a limit on note length?
Practically, no — a whole book fits. Very large notes lose syntax highlighting, and the truly enormous ones can't be synced (see 3.5 and 9.2).
How many notes can I have?
There's no limit.
Can some notes stay on the phone and others only on the computer?
Yes. Turn off sync for the folder you want (section 5.2) — its contents stay on this device only.
Why isn't there a Save button?
Because it isn't needed. Notes save automatically, the instant you type.
Where did my note go?
Check the Trash, the Auto-archive and your folders. If auto-archive or auto-sort is on, the note may have been moved by one of your own rules — see section 6.
Does dictation work offline?
Yes, once the language model has been downloaded once. Your voice never leaves the device.
Can I import notes from another app?
Yes, if it can export .txt or .md files — those import directly.
When something isn't working
A note didn't show up on another device
Check in order: (1) both devices use the same Google account; (2) sync is on and says "Synced"; (3) tap "Refresh" by hand on both devices; (4) make sure the note isn't in a folder with sync disabled; (5) look for a notice about a note being too large.
Status says "Sync paused"
Usually either no connection, or "Wi-Fi only" is on and you're on mobile data. Connect to Wi-Fi or lift the restriction.
Error while restoring from a file
Possible causes: wrong password (double-check your keyboard layout and case), a corrupted file, or a file made by a newer Loknot — update the app first.
A dictation model won't download
Check free space — models range from tens to a few hundred megabytes — and the stability of your connection. An interrupted download can be resumed; progress isn't lost.
A security warning shows up at launch
The app has detected root, instrumentation tools, an emulator, or a signature mismatch. What each of these means is in section 10.3. If you have no idea where the warning is coming from, reinstall from the official store.
The app asks for the PIN too often
Increase the auto-lock delay: Settings → Security → "Auto-lock".

Glossary
End-to-end encryption — data is encrypted on your device and decrypted only on your devices. Nobody can read it in transit or in the cloud.
Master password — the password for encrypted sync. Only you have it, and it can't be recovered.
Wikilink — a way to reference another note by writing its title in double square brackets: [[Title]].
Backlinks — the list of notes that link to the current one.
Fountain — the industry-standard plaintext format for screenplays.
Key rotation — the scheduled replacement of the encryption key every six months. Routine maintenance, not a sign of trouble.
Extra security — a bundle of hardened settings: PIN, biometrics, auto-lock, screenshot block, and stricter backup-password rules.
