Once you have a lot of notes, you need somewhere to put them. Loknot gives you several tools — you don't have to use all of them.
5.1 The home screen
The list of notes is split into clear sections:
- All notes — literally everything you have.
- Unfiled — notes you haven't put anywhere. New notes usually land here.
- Folders — your own sections.
- Tags — labels.
- Archive — things you don't need every day but aren't ready to throw out.
- Trash — deleted notes.
At the top there's a recent notes strip: whatever you were last working on stays within reach. Swipe through it to jump to something recent.
Multi-select. Long-press a note to enter selection mode: check the ones you want (or tap "Select all") and act on them all at once — move to a folder, archive, delete, share.
5.2 Folders
You can group notes into folders.
- Create a folder — the icon in the top bar (folder +). Names up to 100 characters.
- Move a note — from the note's menu: "To folder" or "Out of folder".
- Rename — from the folder's menu.
- Delete a folder — the app warns you: notes inside go to the Trash rather than disappearing. If you still need them, move them out first.
- Pin — from the folder's menu. Pinned folders sit at the top of the folder list.
Turning sync off for a single folder. The folder menu has a sync switch. Notes in a non-synced folder stay on this device only and never leave for the cloud. Handy for drafts and anything truly private.
5.3 Tags
Tags are for when a single folder isn't enough. One note can carry several tags at once.
Adding a tag. Open the note, tap the tag icon in the toolbar, and start typing. The app suggests existing tags so you don't end up with almost-duplicates.
Nested tags. A slash builds a hierarchy: work/reports, work/meetings. In the list they appear as a collapsible tree.
Multiple tags sit side by side on the same note — the note shows up under each of them.
Pinning a tag. Tags you use often can be pinned to the top of the list.
Rename and delete — from the tag's menu. Important: deleting a tag doesn't delete any notes — it just removes the label, and the notes move to "Unfiled".
5.4 Pinning notes
Important notes can be pinned ("Pin" in the note menu) and stay at the top of the Unfiled list.
Note: pinned notes are never auto-archived (see section 6).
5.5 Search and sorting
Search looks inside both the title and the body. Case doesn't matter: "Contract", "contract" and "CONTRACT" all find the same thing.
Sorting (the "Sort" button):
- By creation date — in the order notes were first written.
- By last edited — by when the note was most recently touched. Usually the most useful.
- By size — largest first.
5.6 Auto-archive and Trash
People often mix them up, so briefly:
Auto-archive — notes land here automatically, but only if you've turned Auto-archive on in settings. It's a way to declutter the main list without actually deleting anything.
Trash — for deleted notes. The last stop before something is gone for good.
In both places you can:
- Restore a note;
- Delete permanently — this one can't be undone, so the app asks twice.
The Auto-archive card shows today's stats: how many notes came in, how many left. It's a quick way to spot when your rules aren't quite doing what you expected.
